“This Oxford institution has been dishing up excellent food in pretty surroundings for two decades now...”
The Observer Food Magazine, September 2008, in an article which included Al-Shami in a list of 27 UK restaurants where one can eat well and inexpensively.
Al-Shami has provided Lebanese food and hospitality in Oxford since 1988. It may have been the first Lebanese restaurant in the UK outside London, and Al-Shami has certainly contributed to the growing awareness of Lebanese food in this country.
We have many long-established regular customers, some of whom travel long distances to enjoy our food. The restaurant is a popular choice for party bookings and we cater for a lot of private functions, in the restaurant and elsewhere.
Al-Shami is owned and managed by the Mahfouz family. It is our only restaurant and we have no connection with any other Lebanese restaurant.
Our restaurant is open every day from noon until midnight. And we do mean every day.
Our restaurant is in Jericho, close to the centre of Oxford and the interesting shops, restaurants and cafés of Walton Street and Little Clarendon Street. It shares a building with our small hotel, The Richmond.
We believe strongly that real food and hospitality can improve our wellbeing, as individuals and as a community. We aspire to provide real value to our customers; it gives us pleasure to see our customers arrive, and even greater pleasure to see them leave feeling happy and grateful for their experience.
We value and enjoy our place in the communities of Jericho and Oxford and our relationships with the Arab and Jewish communities.
